Our Founder
Growing up in a family business dedicated to the restoration of historic steam engines, Chloe (known to friends and family as "Mo") developed a strong connection to British heritage, traditional craftsmanship and timeless design. Inspired by these foundations, she created Herbert & Mo to bring together hand drawn illustration and beautifully crafted silk accessories with a contemporary perspective.
Chloe graduated from Central Saint Martins with First Class Honours before beginning her career as a Graphic Designer for one of the UK's leading agritourism event businesses. Alongside her design career, she enrolled on a Diploma in Agriculture at the Royal Agricultural University.
It was through the University's Enterprise Programme that Herbert & Mo was born. Recognising a lack of elegant keepsakes designed specifically for women, Chloe created a bespoke silk twilly for graduating students at the Royal Agricultural University. Their success led to further commissions, including an exclusive silk twilly for the Royal Veterinary College.
The Brass Monkey
The Herbert & Mo monkey has a story of its own. The original Brass Monkey was gifted in good humour to the late Dr Romarni by his college friends, intended to sit proudly on the smokebox of his steam engine as a playful nod to the temperature gauges once found on the bonnets of vintage cars.
Over the years, Dr Romarni began presenting castings of the Brass Monkey to fellow engine owners as an accolade. Following his passing, the original Brass Monkey was entrusted to my father as its custodian.
Today, its distinctive silhouette lives on as the emblem of Herbert & Mo, a symbol of quality and legacy.
